Manage & Edit Cameras

After adding a camera to LightBurn, you can manage individual cameras from the Edit Camera window. While the Cameras Window gives you an overview of all of your connected cameras and their image settings, the Edit Camera window allows you to manage individual cameras in more detail.

Opening the Edit Camera Window

There are a few ways to access this window:

  • The Edit Camera window will automatically open when you import a camera from a LightBurn Camera File (.lbcm).
  • In the Laser Tools menu, select Manage Cameras, then selec the camera you want to edit and click the Edit button.
  • In the Cameras Window, right-click on the camera you want to edit to open the context menu and select Edit.

Click the part of the window you have questions about to go directly to information about it, or scroll down for more information.

Edit Camera Settings and Options

Camera Overview

The first section on the left has an overview of the camera name, type, and mounting method (overhead or head-mounted).

Camera Name

Change the name of the camera here to change how it's displayed in the Cameras Window.

Export

Click the Export button to export a LightBurn Camera File (.lbcm). You can use this to back up your camera settings or copy them to another LightBurn installation.

Camera Source

The Camera Source section lets you manage where the camera feed comes from.

Source

Use the source dropdown (for USB cameras) or the text entry box (for network/IP cameras) to set where LightBurn pulls the camera feed from.

Even if the camera itself hasn't changed, you may need to update this if:

  • You've disconnected a USB camera and reconnected it, especially to a different USB port.
  • The URL or IP address for a network camera has changed.

Resolution/Frame Rate

Your camera may offer multiple options for resolution and framerate. A higher resolution gives you a more detailed image, and a higher frame rate means your camera is more responsive, but also puts more demand on your computer.

Connection and Source Info

This section shows whether your camera is connected and provides more information about the camera itself.

The Source Info box can be expanded by clicking on it, and will summarize:

  • Camera resolution
  • Camera framerate
  • Available camera controls

Lens Calibration

Use the Lens Calibration section to create and manage your Camera Lens Calibration

Lens Calibration Dropdown

Use this dropdown to choose between your current lens calibration model and an uncalibrated version of your camera feed.

Remove

Delete your current lens calibration from LightBurn.

Import

Import a lens calibration from a LightBurn Camera File (.lbcm). This is the same file you would use to import a camera, but if you import it here, it'll only update the Lens Calibration. LightBurn will warn you if your Lens Calibration is not the same one you used when completing your Camera Workspace Alignment.

Calibrate Lens

Click the Calibrate Lens button to open the Lens Calibration wizard and start the calibration process.

Calibration Info

The Calibration Info box can be expanded by clicking on it, and will summarize:

  • Calibration Name
  • Camera Name
  • Calibration Type
  • Original Camera Resolution

Workspace Alignment

Use the Workspace Alignment section to create and manage your Camera Workspace Alignment.

Workspace Alignment Dropdown

Use this dropdown to choose between your current workspace alignment and an unaligned version of your camera feed.

Remove

Delete your current workspace alignment from LightBurn.

Import

Import a workspace alignment from a LightBurn Camera File (.lbcm). This is the same file you would use to import a camera, but if you import it here, it'll only update the workspace alignment. LightBurn will warn you if your workspace alignment is not the same one you used when completing your Camera Lens Calibration.

Align to Workspace

Click the Align to Workspace button to open the Alignment wizard and start the alignment process.

Alignment Info

The Alignment Info box can be expanded by clicking on it, and will summarize:

  • Alignment Name
  • Calibration Name (for the Lens Calibration model used when performing the workspace alignment process)
  • Mount Type (overhead or head-mounted)
  • Material Height
  • Image DPM (dots per meter)
  • Original Resolution

Advanced Settings

The Advanced Settings section includes settings most user won't need to touch, but they're available if you need them.

USB Device Identifier

You can select between using the device ID or device name as an identifier for a USB camera.

Nr Warm-up Frames

You can select a number of warm-up frames, which will be ignored when the camera starts up. The default of 3 frames will work well for most people.
