Ballooned or Incorrectly Sized Shapes

Unwanted Kerf Offset in the Preview window

Description

Shapes are sized incorrectly and rounded on some corners, in extreme cases appearing balloon-like.

Solution

This effect is due to unintentionally enabling Kerf Offset, or setting the value too high.

Kerf refers to the thickness or width of a cut made by a cutting tool. Kerf Offset compensates for the extra material removed by offsetting the path of the laser to the outside of closed shapes (for positive values) or the inside (for negative values).

  • If you did not intend to enable Kerf Offset, open the Cut Settings Editor and reduce the value to 0.00.

  • If you intended to enable Kerf Offset, but the distortion is extreme, try reducing the value.
