How to Downgrade Your LightBurn Version

Although we always encourage users to run the current release of LightBurn, there are times when you may need to either downgrade to an older release, or share files with someone using an older LightBurn version. With that in mind, we have some tips to help with both scenarios.

Backwards Compatibility

Project files, User Bundles, .lbzip device profiles, and other files from older versions of LightBurn are fully compatible with versions of LightBurn newer than the ones they were made in. However, we can't guarantee backwards compatibility — files created in current versions of LightBurn may not work in older ones.

Why Use an Older Version?

Users might want to install an older version of LightBurn for one of the following reasons:

  • If you encounter issues with a new release of LightBurn, it's sometimes helpful to temporarily downgrade to a previous release so you can continue working. Please report issues to support so we can help you resolve any problems, and escalate bugs to our developers.
  • If the upgrade period on your license has expired, your license remains valid for any LightBurn version released before the end of your upgrade period. This means you can keep using LightBurn forever, but you'll need to download an older version of LightBurn from release.lightburnsoftware.com.

    Tip

To use the latest release, you can add another year of updates to your license key.

  • Downgrading a previous release can ensure compatibility if you need to share files with a user who is limited to using an outdated version of LightBurn.

  • If you're running an operating system that is not supported by the current release of LightBurn, you'll need to download an older version that is.

    Info

    • Current versions of LightBurn run on 64-bit Windows 10 (build 1809) or later and macOS 11 or later.

    • LightBurn version 1.7 is the last version compatible with Linux, versions of Windows prior to 10, and versions of macOS prior to 11.

Looking for release candidates?

To download release candidates, please go to our release candidate download page.

Whether you're installing the current version of LightBurn, a release candidate, or an older version, the best place to download is always directly from LightBurn. The current release is always available at release.lightburnsoftware.com - latest. Older releases, going back to LightBurn 0.6, are available at release.lightburnsoftware.com.

Click on the version you want to download. In the screenshot below, you can see the download page for LightBurn 1.5.06.

Operating System

Icons on the left side of the page show at a glance what operating system each download is for:

  • for Windows
  • for macOS
  • for Linux (LightBurn 1.7 and earlier)

Some versions may have more than one download available for the same operating system. See below for more information.

Installer Version

If there's more than one download available for your operating system, the file name describes the differences.

Windows

32 bit installers will have 32Bit in the filename, and the main Windows installer will not. Most modern computers do not need the 32 bit version, and should run the main Windows installer. If you're unsure, try the main installer first. 32 bit support was discontinued with the release of LightBurn 1.6.

macOS

Some versions will have a distinction based on your computer's macOS version.

Linux

Check the file extension for the installer type. Linux support was discontinued with the release of Lightburn 2.0.
