Machine Size Mismatch

A machine size mismatch occurs when the machine size LightBurn reads from your device's firmware doesn't match the machine size saved in Device Settings.

Machine Size Mismatch error popup

Machine Size Mismatch

The error message reads:

"Your machine is configured as width x length but the controller reported firmware width x firmware length.

You may have connected to the wrong machine.

It must be configured correctly for jogging to work safely.

If you ignore this check, you won't be prompted again. However the software then cannot be held responsible for any machine crashes that may happen."

This message occurs when the Working Size in LightBurn's device settings is different from the device's firmware machine size values. If this happens, one of the following is likely the cause:

  • The Working Size in LightBurn's Device Settings were entered incorrectly, either during manual setup or when modifying the device settings.
  • The device's firmware has the wrong values for machine size, which may be an error from the manufacturer.
  • If you have multiple device profiles, the device you've selected may not be the one you've connected to.

It's important for your machine to be set to the correct size. If the working size is set to be larger than the machine, the laser head can crash into the edges of its work area. If it's smaller than the actual size, you will be unable to use the full area of the laser.

Resolving the Error Message

The error message provides you with three options.

Update Device Settings

Click this button to automatically adjust the Device Settings to match the device's firmware. Check your device's user manual or contact your machine's manufacturer to verify the correct dimensions and make sure they match the firmware before choosing this option.

This button brings you to this troubleshooting page for more information, and does not make any changes in LightBurn. You can still make changes manually.

Ignore

Ignore the error for this machine. You won't be prompted again, but the software cannot be held responsible for any machine crashes that may happen.

Correct the Mismatch

If you're certain the Working Size value is correct, you most likely either have the wrong device selected or have firmware with incorrect size values.

  • If you have multiple device profiles, you may be connecting to a machine other than the one you intended. To check, use the dropdown menus in the Laser Window to switch to the correct profile, or select the correct communications port to connect to a different machine.
  • In some rare cases, your machine's firmware may be set incorrectly. If this is the case, you will need to update the size in firmware using Machine Settings. This should be done with caution and only after verifying the correct size in your device's user manual.
